John Heil is a clinical psychologist and sport psychologist – with a clinical practice focusing on injury management, and a broad-based sport and performance consulting practice. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist: Certified Mental Performance Consultant-Emeritus; Fellow in the American Psychological Association and Association for Applied Sport Psychology, Member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry and Mental Health Registry; Major League Baseball-approved Substance Abuse Counselor; and the NVFC National First Responder Registry. Dr. Heil is a Lecturer at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine; and Intern Site Coordinator at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He Author of Psychology of Sport Injury and other works on sport and police performance

 

As a Sport Psychologist he provides consulting to individuals, teams and sports organizations. Dr Heil served as sport psychology consultant at 3 Olympic Games, and as Chair of Sports Medicine and Science for USA Fencing for 15 years. He is Past President of the Society for Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology, on the Sport Science Board of the International Swim Coaches Association, and on the Board of Directors on Virginia Amateur Sports.

 

As a Police and Public Safety Consultant he provides employment and special duty assignment evaluations, fitness for duty assessments and critical stress management. Dr. Heil is an instructor at the Roanoke Police Academy.
